DESCRIPTION
The fishermen in French Brittany wore blue and white striped shirts as workwear at sea, so they would be easier to find in the water if one fell overboard. The number of stripes also indicated which village the fisherman came from.
Symbolic of Napoleon's victories, French navy clothing had 21 stripes from the 19th century onwards. The rugged charm of the sailor shirts inspired Coco Chanel in 1913, and she made the striped pattern a recurring element in her collections. In the 1990s, Jean Paul Gaultier chose the maritime fashion classic as the trademark of his label.
In 1955, James Dean made the iconic striped pattern a part of his rebellious look in the film "Rebel Without a Cause". Pablo Picasso enjoyed wearing it while working in his studio, as did Kurt Cobain in a grunge version during his performances.

72% combed cotton, 14% PES/microfiber, 10% acrylic, 4% polyamide
Turn inside out and wash on wool cycle at 30° C with similar colours or separately. Reshape while damp before drying. Dry flat. Iron on low heat.
